Year built: 1980s
Plan: My Design
This was a fun small project and I made 4 of them.
I bought a wooden TV table from Target and used it for some design ideas and overall dimensions.
The top was 1/2" Oak Plywood with a generous edge band (bread board style) of 1" Solid Oak with a width of 2" on the sides and 1 1/2" on the front and back. The legs and other parts were made of solid oak. The latch mechanism was made of scrap metal.
The legs were joined using a dowel for the fixed portion and screw posts with nylon washers for the moving joints.
To join the breadboard style edges to the plywood top I used the jointer to smooth the edges, butt joints and glue. This turned out looking and functioning perfectly.
I chamfered the top edge of the table to give it a nicer look than just a round over.
Finished with just Poly (I think), satin sheen (I think).
They have had daily use for 30 years!
