Year built: 2000s
Plan: Woodsmith
Decided to add the mission style dresser that is part of the same set as Brit's bed for her bedroom.
The Woodsmith design was terribly small and short, so, before I started on the build I redesigned the plan for a more normal size dresser adding an additional bottom drawer.
Again used Oak instead of Cherry. Another very challenging project (Woodsmith in general are challenging) and took a really long time. Lot's of detail, lot's of joinery. The top and drawer fronts are all made from edge joined pieces of solid oak. All of the drawer fronts and top turned out really nice. I like the detail of the chamfers on the drawers.
The drawers are all dove tailed. I bought a dovetail jig but, it was still a major, major pain for set up for each drawer. Not fun. Since then, tossed the dovetail jig and any other drawers I make will use a simpler joinery technique. Additionally, all the drawers are inlaid so, lots of precise measurements and joinery for both the drawers and the carcass.
One flaw in the design was how the drawers slide in and out of the case. The drawers do not slide well on the rails (design flaw not joinery flaw) and one of these days, I am going to go back and figure out how to make them slide better.
The pedestal adds a nice detail to the dresser.
Finished it clear like the bed. Has been in Brittany's room ever since. Very proud of me work on this.
