Cradle

Year built: 1995
Plan: Woodsmith Magazine

This was a labor of love. I decided to build the cradle when Kathryn was pregnant with Jake. I took this from a Woodsmith plan. I really like the detail of the woodsmith plans although, not always a fan of the type of joinery they choose.

Made from solid oak except the bottom which was plywood since all its edges are concealed. The sides are edged joined and rounded over. the top and bottom rails hold the spindles (which I bought) at Rockler.

The legs and feet are the coolest feature of the cradle. Mortise and Tenon joinery used to attach the legs to the feet. They are joined to the cradle so that it can rock. Gotta be able to rock the cradle! And, can also lock it in place if you don't want it to rock.

Paid lot's of attention to all the details in the plan and the cradle came out really nice. Both Jake and Brittany slept in the cradle for their first few months. Very cool.
