Model Kit

This is a different kind of model kit from the other plastic ones I have built. Brittany gave this to me for Christmas (2020).

Made by CubicFun, contains 266 pieces

Dimensions: 34" length, 4" width and 11 1/2" tall.

Brief History

Construction of the RMS Titanic, funded by the American, J.P. Morgan and his International Mercantile Marine Co. began on Mar 31, 1909 at the Harland and Wold Shipyard in Belfast, UK (now home of the Titanic Museum). The hull was launced on May 31, 1911 and outfitting complete by Mar 31, 1912.

The Titanic sank in the North Atlantic Ocean on 15 April 1912, after striking an iceberg during her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City. Of the estimated 2,224 passengers and crew aboard, more than 1,500 died.

The Build - Feb, 2021

This model was pretty fun to build. Different, of course, to my plastic modeling. This model was made from a dense styrafoam and the pieces were made to fit using slots and tabs. For the most part it went together better than I had expected. However, I did start glueing all the joints together after a while to avoid them coming apart as I built the model up. It came with some LED lighting that lights up the interior and a line above the stacks which makes it look pretty cool in the dark. A few pictures follow...
